Microsoft earning Huge Money from Android sales

Sounds Wired, that How Microsoft can make money using Android while neither they are developing any mobile device on Android nor they uses Android for their other platforms. The Operating System giant Microsoft has making huge money by using their royalty deals with companies like Samsung, HTC, LG and many others, based on the usage of Microsoft's patent File System exFAT [ Extended File Allocation Table ] on their devices.

How much Microsoft Earns from from Android Sales

According to an report " Microsoft earns near about 6$ to 8$ from Android devices sold by these companies.  The total Sum accounts for $2.2 Billion in 2012 and $3.4 Billion in 2013". As, Android Empire is expanding day by day Microsoft's earning is expected to increase exponentially  in coming years . 
The amount that Microsoft collects from these companies is comparably  higher than what Microsoft earns from their services and applications like Skype, Xbox and Windows Mobile
Microsoft expects to earn $8.8 billion of revenue from Android sales till 2017 expecting that 70% of devices activated comes under the deal.

What is exFAT and why companies should Pay Revenue

Apart from Android device manufacturer Microsoft is earning huge revenue from many other companies  which uses their exFAT system like Sharp [ Covers Panasonic, Canon and many other companies ] , Nikon , BMW and many more.

exFAT is basically a file storage system used to store files on Memory Cards and Inbuilt memories. exFAT allows user to store files greater than 4GB [ Limitation of FAT ] using the same technology of FAT. Their is no such open source file system still available which can store large files and effectively as Microsoft's exFAT.
