Memory Cards can now be compromised and used to perform undetectable man-in-middle attacks and execute Malicious codes.

Washington base security researchers have found a technique to exploit micro-controllers present inside the micro-chips of memory card to execute malicious code .

As memory card is a common form of Flash storage and used widely in almost of sort of multimedia devices and smart-phones to store data. The researchers said " They have found the way to use micro-processor used in flash cards to oversee the details of data coverage and use it to temper data".

A perfect Man-In-Middle attack can be conducted by tempering sensitive data stored on the chip. The researchers have managed to copy , modify the data secretly .

According to the researchers , this can also be used to exploit other flash based devices such as SSD [ Solid state drives used in place of HDD's for greater speed and efficiency ] and eMMC's [ Embedded Multimedia Controllers ].
