Media reports recently informed that spy agencies have been gathering the data transmitted by popular smart-phone applications
The National Security Agency [NSA] and its British equivalent used uncovered power-point slides has indicated that these spy agencies were continuously intercepting personal data that was transferred by 'leaky' smart-phone applications. According , to the documents provided by former NSA  contractor Edward Snowden showed that the agency and Britain's GCHO gathered data transmitted "in clear" by "Angry Birds, Facebook, Flicker, Google Maps, Linked In and Twitter".

 Warning is provided by Security experts for years that smart-phone applications have been playing fast and loose with user data. This becomes more disturbing as data is flowing back and forth on open radio channels. 

All this can be avoided and made harder for agencies to collect information on you while you play "Angry Birds or Access your Facebook account from your cellphone ".

 Put Your Phone Into Air-Plane Mode/ Off  Cellular Data while Playing Games

Most of the games don't need an Internet connection but Ad-Networks do. Kill the connection  and block Ads from displaying and prevent transmission of your personal data by game as well as by the third party Ads.

Use VPN while connecting to Interent

VPN [ Virtual Private Network ] encrypts all data traffic to and from your device by routing it through a VPN provider's server. Using VPN make it difficult for spies or hackers to eavesdrop on those transmission.

Avoid Posting Status via Cellular Networks and on Open connections

Prevent posting to Social Networks from your smart-phone using Cellular Networks and Open Wifi Hot-spots and wait until you're connected to your secure Home or Workplace Desktop, Laptop PC or a secure HTTPS connection. Always provide your data only to sites operating on https connection

Install https Everywhere plug-in

Https everywhere will make sure that a website like Facebook, Twitter and many others are capable of securely connecting to your computer. Https everywhere is a browser based plug-in available for Firefox, Chrome and Opera and is freely provided by Electronic Frontier Foundation. 

Turn Off GPS, Geo-Location and WiFi when not in use

To pin-point your location quickly Wifi and GPS are of prime use, and Hence turn-off these features when not in use by you. These features can be exploited to get your personal information by compromised applications.
